CommentI believe it was the weird mix of warm, humid weather and the way the clouds were forming in the atmosphere. There was an alien that appeared out of nowhere this afternoon at Rockland Lake.

Read 1 CommentI just came across the name of a movie "DreamRiders". It is about a father and son who travel across the country on bicycles in order to reconnect years after a bitter divorce. It was on a TV station on June 20th. Has anyone seen it? It looks like it would be a good movie to watch.

Read 7 CommentsYesterday Debbie and I mapped out and executed a ride that took us to all 27 Zip Codes in Rockland County. It was a tough ride, with lots of hills and traffic yet also some rewarding stretches. I won't reveal our route, except to say that we started and ended in 10960. We used a dog-eared Hagstrom map, augmented by a phone book map, to chart our course. We went deep enough into every zip code to make sure we had been there. It took us 63.5 miles, and it's on my Garmin.

Read 7 CommentsNew Jersey Senator Steven Oroho, (R-Sussex), introduced a three-foot passing bill with Sen. Brian Stack (D-Hudson) into the state legislature on March 16, 2009. "Hopefully, this bill will make people more aware of bicyclists on the road," stated Oroho. If approved, New Jersey would become one of the few states to have a three-foot buffer law for bike riders. Contact your area New Jersey lawmakers in support of the three-foot bill.

Read 1 CommentThe Garmin 705 has just gotten a big update, with the Firmware bumped to up to 2.8. This big update fixes lots of things, including the recent bug where the history folder became unreadable. The update is so large, in fact that it wipes all of the data off of the device, so be sure to back up your Garmin before giving the 2.8 update a whirl. Also be sure your batteries are fully charged—if the battery dies when the unit is rebooted after the install, you've got a nice paperweight on your hands.

Read 5 CommentsJust wanted to stop in and Introduce my self. It has been a life time since I last had a bike I could call my own and I am looking forward to growing in the sport. I bought my self a Mountain bike trek 4300 to keep the inner kid happy, but the adult in me is already planing on saving some cash for a road bike. So for now I will just try to get my self back in shape. Well see you around :)

CommentAs you are all well aware this season has been unseasonably, damnably, and frustratingly monsoon like! At 16:30 hours it looked like another ride would be canceled. A little voice, standing out amongst the many others in my head, said "Ride PATH, ride"! ( Maybe it was Forrest.) So I said what the hell and did not cancel this evenings ride! I am so glad I listened to this voice as opposed to the others that said sit home and have a beer!

Read 2 CommentsA great turn out, eight people for our pre-bbq ride from Rockland Lake up and around the county. We did climbs up and down the river, around Letchworth, over to Pearl River, back through Valley Cottage.

Read 4 CommentsStunningly beautiful day as the RBC crew of dozen-strong riders took to the climbs of 9W to head into NYC's Central Park. There were so many people on this ride, I'm afraid I can't remember everyone's name. What I can remember though is the awesome sight of the tall-ships in the Hudson coming up for the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's first sail up the river. (Funny coincidence he had the same name as the river, huh?)

Read 2 CommentsSO - this ride rocked out...BUT was not in any way shape or form a RECOVERY RIDE from the day before...I think the only way this will work is if all present on the ride were present on the ride the previous day. That said - we RODE HARD and had fun doing it...and got lost (by only a couple of blocks) twice. We also found a STILL (not moving) YOUNG MALE CARDINAL in the road. Roger rescued the little pajarito, and then we were on our way. GREAT ride again. Ten folks came out for this one. Look for two weeks from now for the Cold Spring ride! Thanks for all of your awesomeness RBC! Oh yeah. Thirty - three ish miles again. Avg???
