Northernmost Catskills - one way ride

Route Description

Break the Psychological Barrier- Bike to the northernmost point of the Catskills: This route is one way and requires vehicular return support. The route is mostly flat for the first 80ish miles until right after Saugerties. Hearts Content Road in the Catskills is rolling, but nothing you can't handle if you're from Rockland. Route 23, west of Cairo, is about a 5-7% hill climb of 4 miles. It's the icing on the cake and the homestretch into the Blackhead/Windham high peaks. By the way, for an epic hill climb ala Alpe D'huez, turn off route 32 onto 32a to 23a and head for Tannersville. For an even harder hill climb (I'm talking 20% on parts), head up Platte Clove Road (county rd 16) to Tannersville. (This road is west of Saugerties and is closed for winter. The tour de catskills rides up this road and when I did it in summer 2010, there was chalk writing all over the road.) Also, 50 miles into the ride, where rt 32 hits rt 55 in Modena, the Tuthilltown Distillery is not far away so this could be a nice cycle.

Cue Sheet

If you are riding with the club, bring your ride leader information with you and the cue sheet.
Your ride leader should provide this, but it is a good idea to be prepared just in case your ride is a drop ride and you are dropped!
