We had a nice turnout this morning for the multilevel ride.   The C group had a few different starting points.  I started at Toga with the A/B guys and we picked up Betty at Memorial Park.

Shortly thereafter, between Nyack and Piermont, the A/B guys rode off into the distance, but Betty and I picked up Paul and Lila, who were completely ready to join us (just awesome!), in Piermont.   The four of us kept pace with each other for the most part on 9W and all within a couple of minutes of each other.  Nice steady pace.

We picked up Marshall from the A/B group as well, as he was taking a breather on 9W, so we brought our number to five.  (I know its tough for Ian to hear, but I think Marshall wants to defect to the C group  ;-) )

There were a lot of riders out today and an incredible amount of police presence (a.k.a. po-po as my daughter would say) on 9W.   Evidently, there was some race going on, but I have no idea what it was.  If anyone knows what the event was for today, please respond, I'm so curious!

We stopped at the bike shop in Fort Lee for a few minutes but took different routes back.  Betty and I returned via River Road and Lila, Paul and Marshall went back via 9W.

River Road was tough but really nice.  It's so great to ride such a scenic road with virtually zero cars.  The final hill is really tough, but the feeling of climbing it is just fabulous.  Crazy as it may sound, I needed that.

I thought it would be very cold since there was no sun, so I layered up and wore my heavy gloves, and man, was I hot for most of the ride!!  It's so hard to know what to wear.  I can't wait for summer!!!

I dropped Betty at Memorial Park and finally made it back to Toga.  I had time to say hi to Eric and chat a bit with Ian, plus enjoyed a free coffee!  (free coffee is always a nice cap to the day.)

That's all I can think of for now.   I think it will be a high protein sushi dinner for me tonight! I sooo deserve it after that hill!

Thanks to everyone for a great ride.  I really enjoyed riding with you all and can't wait for next week!

    Good ride....
Still slow on the climbs but my speed is improving on the rollers and flats. I was glad I was able to give Ian a reason to open it up a bit and cruise in the 20's a few times.

The Alpine climb was better for me than I anticipated though I did feel a bit of knee pain but nothing concerning. After a quick break Ian and I headed back onto 9w and started pushing the pace back home.

Ian was a few yards ahead just past the Scout camp with my speedometer reading 19/20 and I was getting into a groove to slaughter the county line sprint. Always a fave of mine. So of course there would be a noise....

Not a good noise by any stretch... KANGGG!

Blew a spoke.... Not just any spoke but the signature single red spoke on my rear Ksyrium SL's. The wheel went way out of true, so much so that even if I took the brake pads off I still did not have enough clearance at the chain stay junction...

I called out to Ian but he didn't hear me. So it was a call to TOGA for the van to come get me. Marshall, Paul and Lila came by, we talked and I told them to get a move on as help was on the way...

As always thanks to the TOGA crew. AND thanks to all the passing cyclists who slowed to ask if I needed help...

Oh man, the red spoke is the one that makes you go fast.  Better get it replaced quick. Or you could paint some flames on the side of your top tube, they work also.

Thanks to Anne and Ian for organizing today's ride.  Anne's right, it looks like I am C group material at this point in the season.  After pushing hard to keep up with Ian and Erik, I just had to stop on a hill that I never had a problem with before.  I guess I just need to get out more to get back in shape.

Paul, thanks for bringing my new club jersey out to Toga.  I can't wait to wear it on the next ride.

Thanks again Anne for organizing the ride. It was so good to see Paul and Lila after the long winter. What a great way to spend the day! Looking forward to more adventures.
