In an effort to start a new weekly routine and get some midweek riding in, I left work a little early today. I've been spinning 1-2x a day plus other workouts and feeling pretty good, so I thought I would head down 202-Call Hollow and try and make it up Willow Grove to Kanawauke Circle and back. Its something that I've wanted to do again since last year (when I tried it and was pretty much beaten by this hill), so I've been wanting to have another go at it.
It's about 25 miles and a great ride, tough and challenging... except the wind was worse than the hills. On 202, I felt like I was going to be blown off the road. It was bad the entire ride and so bad that, crazy as it may seem, while I did make it up Willow Grove (though barely, trust me on this one, but I do think I did better than my first trek up this hill), on my way back down given the wind and the fact that this hill is pretty steep, I decided to walk my bike down the hill. Glad I did, too, because I actually had to stop and wait at one point for the wind to die down! Wind wind go away!
It was tough and I'm paying for it, but all that aside, I think this is a good after work route especially if I want to get better with hill climbing (between Willow Grove and 106), so hopefully I can keep manage to fit it in most weeks. With the days getting longer, it should be doable (I hope). :-)
