Despite the gloomy, raw weather we had a good turnout for today's multi-level ride. John, Dan, Marion, Daniel and Jay came out for the 40-mile ride from Toga Nyack to the GWB.

It was cloudy and foggy when we left Toga at 8:00. We kept a spirited pace through Nyack and Piermont and regrouped before making the climb up to 9W. Daniel ratcheted up the pace on the climbs to Alpine, and I struggled to keep him in sight. At the top he let me latch on, and we kept up a fast pace over the rollers of 9W to Ft. Lee. By the time we reached the bike shop we were pretty spent (at least I was), so we stopped for a regroup. Jay decided to wait for John, Anne and Marion to finish the ride with them. The rest of us headed down to Hudson Terrace and made the big climb up to 9W. We stayed together the whole way back to Toga and had a great paceline on 9W and Piermont Ave. Back at Toga we kicked back and enjoyed a post-ride cup of coffee.

We had a great workout today and a good time. I'm looking forward to some great rides for the 3-day weekend coming up.

I had a great time, as I always do, and rode mainly with John and Marion.   I think Marion has a little of that sherpa climbing blood in her because she easily sped past both John and I on every one of the climbs.  There is not a doubt in my mind that John could have as well, but he was, as always, kindly sticking with me up the hills.  Hill climbing aside though, I would say that our pace was also spirited, albeit quite a few mph slower than Ian's group, but I think we pushed it pretty good.

We met Jay at the bike shop, had a quick bite and headed back via River Road to 9W and back.  River Road is always a scenic gorgeous pleasure in spite of the last big hill, even on a cloudy day.

I also got my first lesson in drafting from Jay as we rode through Piermont, though I have to get used to being close to someone else's tire and staying at his pace.  Practice, practice, practice!

It was a great day and I had a great time.  Thanks to everyone for coming out!

I have not had this much fun in a long time. Anne kept a brisk pace but she kindly slowed up on the hill climbs. Anne really impressed me with her spirit to keep the pace up. You were a great ride leader today Anne, thanks. Marion shot up the hills. She told me it was something to do with body mass, energy and force vectors. I think she was being kind. We had the pleasure of Jay joining our group on the return half of the ride. Although we were a little slow for him, he kept back with us making it a nice four person tandem line. I don't remember Jay being this fast so it must be that beautiful new Giant TCR! Nice bike Jay!  I had a great time catching up with Jay since I haven't been riding much and he looks great despite the personal injury and surgery. You could never tell he had back surgery in April watching him ride today. To sum it up, thanks Anne, Jay, Marion for making this morning a great morning. It was also good to see Ian although it was only for the start of the ride at TOGA and when I got back to TOGA. I think he rode to the GWB bridge today but that is only hear say! ; )

Today's ride was a lot of fun.

Ian pulled from Nyack, through Piermont, up to the NY/NJ border, with Jackie in tow. (Ian, did you forget about Jackie? ;) ) I then took the opportunity to get in a LT workout and did some out-of-the-saddle climbing, followed by a TT to Palisades Ave. Ian and I averaged between 23 and 24 mph for those 8.2 miles. I was going cross-eyed at some points and managed to get my season high (so far) 191 heart rate.

The cool temperature helped us not overheat, something to which I don't look forward with the eventual coming of the summer heat and humidity. I'll take today's weather over that any day.

It was really nice going for the first time in my life on what everyone here calls "River Road." I enjoyed the hill up to the alpine police station, and also the shortcut through Tallman Park to Piermont.

After reaching Toga, some crucial stretching and then some much-needed black coffee.

The coffee was very appreciated, Toga. Thank you.

    My Garmin stats:

    40.68 miles
    17.3 mph avg
    moving time 2:20:24
    2,218 elevation gain
    avg temp 58.2
