I had 1 flat at mile 86 that happened 25 feet from a mechanic support tent. Repair took 4 minutes.
My brother had 1 flat at mile 180, took us (me) about 40 minutes.
I stopped about 4 times to help riders along the way. One brake problem, one dropped chain, one shifting problem and one emotional breakdown.
Several crashes. Mostly bike/bike due rider inattentiveness.
One spectacular crash right in front of me on mile 74. Three riders crash, one doing about 3 flips and turns in the air. Nothing serious, lots of deep road rash and scrapes, possibly a sprained wrist. Bikes were pretty mangled. I stayed to help. About 40 minutes.
It was an long and very warm day. Everyone in our group cramped and bonked MANY times during the ride because they didn't pay attention to their hydration and nutrition.
Everyone except me :) (See my caloric intake described above)
My brother was cramping intensely the last 15 miles and was hypoglycemic the last 4 miles. We shoved every possible electrolyte and glucose product down his throat and proceed to plow through those last few miles in more than TWO hours.
Well, the plan was to do 204 miles the first day and then double back to help my niece get through the last 100 miles on her second day.
Well, she did the entire ride in 1 day, and actually finished an hour before me and my brother.
So, we didn't have to do another 100 miles. The family is going on a picnic instead. Yoo hoooo!!
This was one the the best rides i've ever ridden. Ever.
