Marshal and I pulled out of Toga and passed John C. having his morning and coffee at the Runcibal Spoon.

John caught up with us just as we hit 9W and we formed the “A” group. At exit 4 we formed a tight pace line and John “volunteered” pull us down to the Bike Shop. It seemed as though every traffic light we hit was red, causing a quite a few stops.

We passed a group of riders stopped to change a flat and flew by them, since the appeared to have everything under control.

We took a break at the Bike shop and the B group caught up with us along with Julie, Adrianna and a few of their friends. Turns out they were the group we passed. They stopped to fix Julie’s flat. We pointed her to the floor pump to top off her tire and quickly heard a pop. She had a large cut in the sidewall and had to buy a new tires at Strictly Bicycles. A reminder to carry cash and a credit card, you never know when an expensive repair will pop-up

We headed towards River Road with the B group.Lots of people were out enjoying the wonderful weather. Avoiding them was more challenging than the hills. I pushed it a little up the last hill and took the Polka Dot Jersey. Marshal, Rena and John arrived shortly after me.

As we were catching our breath John announced he had to be back at toga in ½ hour so the 4 of us headed out planning to push it a little. We hit 9W and John turned it up a notch. Marshal Rena and I held tight, a fast double pace line went by and John grabbed on. I said what the heck and followed John's lead. John and I flew down 9W we made it to Tallman in less than 15 minutes.

We took it easy through Piermont and back to Toga. Marshall and Rena came in just behind us.

Our stats for the day:     40.8 miles Elevation 2619. Average 15.1 mph

A big thanks to John for pulling us most of the way and pushing Marshal and I to our limits.

    Mike

It was such an amazingly great day for a bike ride! Not sure what to wear in the morning, I chose to keep my long sleeve jersey over my sleeveless given it was cold at the time but knowing it would heat up.

I started out with the group and stayed with Rena and William/Brooklyn until 9W.   Rena is a great climber and she was quickly gone chasing the "A" group.  I could see William for awhile, then he also faded into the distance of 9W.  The two of them together formed the B group.  By the time I got to the bike shop (the caboose of the pack), the group was pretty well rested and ready to go again.  I said a quick hello to Julie and Adriana who were waiting for Julie's bike.  (ps-I can feel Julie's pain!  What an ordeal!  :-(   I had two flats during my century ride last Sunday and made it a point to make sure I had steel reinforced tires installed on my bike before the ride today.  Okay, well, maybe that's a tad of an exaggeration, but I did have improved Maxxis something tires installed on the rear wheel and, fortunately, made it without a hitch.  No dropped chains either.  So I guess my excuses for falling behind today were nil. :-(   Anyway, I digress... I hope Julie, Adriana and team made it back okay.)

Back to the report, fortunately, I don't usually need to stop for long so I had a quick sip of water and a bite and headed off with the A/B group.   I stuck with William and Rena for a bit, but again on the climb up the big hill, Rena was gone and I nominate her for the Sherpa award again.

When I pulled into the police station just behind William, the A/B group were ready to roll, but William and I chose to catch our breath before heading out.  I peeled my long sleeve jersey off and tied it around my waist, because I was sweating it was so hot!   Just two minutes later though, we were back on the road.

We had a nice chat along the way - William enjoys riding in this area from Brooklyn and called the route "biking gold", which I wholeheartedly agree with.

We headed through Tallman Mtn. State Park and Piermont and had to go down and ride along the water to avoid the Street Fair and then the final few climbs back to Toga.

I also got some bike upgrade advice from William and Mike and my next investment may be in better "wheels" to gain some speed - 2mph gain is amazing!!   I have to think about my next bike upgrade, but plenty of time over the winter to do research!

Winter - ugh... as Ned from Game of Thrones would say, "Winter is coming..." (and I am NOT looking forward to it.)  Fortunately, though, today it was summertime!!  I wish I could rewind the day and enjoy it again.

Thanks to everyone who came out today!  Hope to see William join us on more rides and hope you all had a great day!
